David de Gea and Paul Pogba have been ruled out of Manchester United's Premier League clash with Liverpool.

De Gea underwent scans on Tuesday after suffering an injury in Spain's Euro 2020 qualifying match with Sweden, and will not be fit for the weekend.

Pogba, who has missed five of United's last seven games with an ankle injury, was in a race to get fit for Sunday but will also miss the derby.

The Frenchman was in Dubai over the international break for warm-weather training, but has not yet made enough progress to face Liverpool.

Solskjaer said: "David needs a scan. I think he'll be out. It certainly looked like it anyway judging on last night," adding: "Paul had a scan after the Arsenal game. Hopefully he won't be too long, but he won't make this game, no."

Injuries to the pair comes as a huge blow for boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer who has something of a crisis on his hands at Old Trafford.

The Red Devils currently have 10 players out injured with Anthony Martial, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Jesse Lingard all out of action.

De Gea is the latest injury set-back, with the keeper coming off as a substitute in Spain's 1-1 draw with Sweden on Tuesday night.

The shot-stopper appeared to injure his groin while clearing the ball and was swapped for Chelsea keeper Kepa Arrizabalaga.

Sergio Romero will fill his shoes on Sunday.

Ahead of the derby, Juan Mata said: "We have a great chance to change the dynamic and we are all very motivated to take the win.

"We are United, we are playing at home and we will give everything to be able to take the victory that our fans deserve.

"The bad news from the [Spain] game was that David wasn't able to finish the match due to an injury problem after making some great saves.

"I hope that it won't be anything major and he can be back with us soon."
