Six mourners wounded as vehicle transporting body overturns in Oyugis-Sondu road

Six mourners on Saturday evening escaped with minor injuries after a minibus they had boarded overturned at the Chabera trading centre along Oyugi-Sondu road in HomaBay County.

The vehicle that belongs to NMOA Sacco was transporting a body and 32 mourners to Nyakach when the incident occurred.

One of the mourners said that the vehicle overturned when the driver attempted to avoid a hole on the road.

According to Rachuonyo East Sub-County Police Commander Charles Barasa, those injured were rushed to Saokon Medical Clinic for treatment.

The police boss tied the accident to the ongoing road construction in the area which is complicating issues for motorists.

He further added that the body was transferred to another vehicle after which the uninjured mourners proceeded with their journey as planned.

The vehicle was towed to the Othoro Police Station by traffic officers who were on the ground.

The incident comes after a deadly carnage involving Eldoret Express bus and a truck at Awasi along Kisumu-Kericho highway, which killed thirteen people early this month.
