President Uhuru Kenyatta has condoled with the families of 11 GSU police officers who were killed after their vehicle hit an Improvised Explosive Device in Liboi, Garissa County yesterday.

The officers died after the IED ripped their car as they were patrolling the Kenya Somalia border between Liboi and Damajale on Saturday evening.

They were drawn from the Harhar General Service Unit (GSU) Camp at Degow.

A statement dispatched by the State House Spokesperson Kanze Dena reads partly:

“The President sends his heartfelt condolences and sympathies to the families of the departed Officers and assures them of Government support during this difficult period of mourning.”

Uhuru has however warned that prompt action will be taken against perpetrators of such heinous terrorist acts.

“The President sends a strong reminder to all misguided elements out to compromise the safety and security of Kenyans across the country that the Government and the people of Kenya will never succumb to their cowardly terrorist actions,” the statement further reads.

Also, the Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiang’i also condoled with the families saying that the sacrifice of the slain police officers can never go unnoticed.

“I extend my deepest sympathies and profound solidarity with the families of our gallant officers who lost their lives in Garrisa last night. Their selfless patriotic sacrifice to serve Kenya renews our resolve in the fight against terror,” he stated in a tweet.

The bodies of the officers are expected to be flown to Nairobi later today from Daadab.
