Viral video of donkeys being brutally killed was not shot in Kenya — KSPCA

The Kenya Society for the Protection & Care of Animals (KSPCA) has moved to rubbish claims that a video of donkeys being slaughtered was shot in Kenya.

Through a post on Twitter, KSPCA stated the video was shot several years ago in Tanzania and resulted in closure of the slaughterhouse.

In the video, a number of men could be seen hitting donkeys several times using metal rods.

"There is a video circulating on social media, filmed in a donkey slaughterhouse, showing unimaginable animal cruelty.

“The video was filmed in Tanzania several years ago, and the resulting outcry saw the slaughterhouse closed, and a complete ban on donkey slaughter in Tanzania,” said KSPCA.

Further, it stated that it had embarked on a humane slaughter program where slaughterhouse staff are taught various skills.

“KSPCA was instrumental in introducing humane slaughter of livestock in Kenya. After having seen the way animals suffer in abattoirs, we embarked on a humane slaughter program.

“Our inspectors teach slaughter house staff on proper use of captive bolt pistols and their maintenance,” read the tweet.
