Babu Owino offers helping hand to South African youth in face of xenophobia

Embakasi East MP Babu Owino on Thursday offered a helping hand to the youth in South Africa following xenophobic attacks that have rocked the country in the past few days.

Through a post on Facebook, Babu expressed his sadness saying it is a shame that Africans have turned against one other.

He went ahead to state that he was willing to travel to SA to speak to the youth and request them to turn away from the ‘destructive path’ they are on.

“My attention is drawn to the reported incidents of xenophobic violence spreading on the continent, particularly in South Africa, Nigeria and Zambia.

“Our television screens are splashed with scenes of Africans meting out unspeakable violence against fellow Africans - public lynching akin to what the white man did to the slaves they took them from the motherland.

“As a Pan - Africanist, I register my deep disappointment at this turn of events. I never thought I would live to see the day that we would turn against each other in this way…As a continent, our forefathers worked together to drive out the colonialists. And now, when we are “free,” we use our freedom to turn on each other!” he wrote.

The legislator further urged young vibrant leaders in Africa to join hands and inspire the youth.

“I therefore call upon my fellow leaders in the Youth For Africa Movement, Bobbi Wine, Nelson Chamisa and Julius Malema, we must rise to the occasion.

“We need to urgently come together to inspire our fellow young people to do better. If the older generation won’t do anything, we must step up!

“I am ready to travel to South Africa and Nigeria at a moment’s notice to speak to the youth and turn them away from the destructive path that they are on. And I call upon my colleagues to join me in this. Africa must rise!” he wrote.
