Anerlisa Muigai asks Uhuru to intervene after arrest of her parents

Anerlisa Muigai, daughter of Keroche Breweries CEO Tabitha Karanja and Chairman Joseph Karanja, on Thursday penned a letter to President Uhuru Kenyatta asking him to intervene following the arrest of her parents.

Through a post on her Facebook page, Anerlisa requested the Head of State to protect local entrepreneurs since they face many challenges in their businesses.

“Dear President (Uhuru Muigai Kenyatta), I am writing in regards to our local entrepreneurs.

“I am humbly requesting you to intervene and help/protect us all in businesses. We chose you as our President.

“Everyday our local entrepreneurs are being fought. We trust and believe that you will do something about it. Thank You. #BuyKenya #BuildKenya #” she wrote.

Tabitha and Joseph were arrested on Thursday morning by officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations at their Naivasha-based company.

The arrests followed an order by Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Noordin Haji after the couple was accused of failing to pay taxes amounting to Sh14 billion from 2015, an allegation they deny.

The couple looked unfazed by the arrest carried out by tens of sleuths, who whisked them away in cars to the DCI headquarters along Kiambu Road in Nairobi.

Minutes before the arrest, Naivasha Chief Magistrate Kennedy Bidali had issued search and arrest warrants for the entrepreneurs who had locked themselves in their offices located in Naivasha, along the Nairobi-Nakuru highway.

Once the order was served, the two walked out of their officers as the company's distributors, who had arrived at the beer factory hours earlier, cheered them.
