Sonko appoints Kerich as 'Super CEC' to coordinate county affairs

Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has appointed Charles Kerich (pictured) as a 'Super CEC'.

He will now be in charge of overseeing other executives at City Hall.

The announcement on Kerich's promotion was made by the city boss through an executive order signed last week on July 18, 2019.

He was previously the Finance executive.

Kerich will supervise the 10 sectors of the county government by implementing and coordinating programmes.

Kerich's new role includes provision of supervisory leadership throughout the delivery cycle of all county programmes, receiving reports from executives and present progress reports to the governor.

He is further expected to provide coordinated strategic communication to the public and other stakeholders on the progress of the projects.

Kerich will further provide guidance on appropriate measures to improve services.

The former journalist will also monitor and evaluate follow-up mechanisms for resources allocated to all priority programmes.

“He will oversee the implementation and communication of all county government projects and any other function ancillary to the above as may be directed by the governor,” stated the order.

There are 10 CECs in Nairobi county. They are in charge of Finance and Economic Planning, Health, ICT and E-government, Devolution, Environment and Water and Agriculture.

Others are Trade, Roads and Transport, Education and Lands and Housing.

Kerich will assume a role similar to that of Interior CS Fred Matiang'i, who was recently appointed super CS by President Uhuru Kenyatta.

In his order, Sonko explained that the appointment was neccessitated by the  need for an efficient coordination and administration of all projects.

The city boss emphasised that the appointment is in line with the Constitution and the County Government’s Act requiring executive authority be exercised for the well-being and benefit of county residents.

“Having considered the above in light of the current structure of the County Government Administration, there is a need to appoint a County Executive Committee Member in charge of implementing and coordinating various programmes and projects,” said Sonko.
