Youths attack police with bottles during nasty shopping centre riot

Police were hit with bottles during the confrontation with the youth.

A gang of around 100 teens bombarded police with bottles and missiles in a 'riot' outside a shopping centre in east London.

Footage shows how a crowd of youths threw projectiles at police outside Westfield Shopping Centre in Stratford, at around 8pm last night.

Four officers were injured in the incident which also resulted in three arrests.

Officers are believed to have been responding to reports of a robbery when the disturbance broke out.

Passengers can heard shouting and screaming during the melee at the busy transport hub.

One woman was injured when she fell down the stairs to the Stratford tube entrance but was not seriously harmed.

Met Taskforce officers tweeted a picture of a deadly hunting knife that had been recovered from the scene.

A Met Police spokesperson said: "Police responding to reports of a robbery at Stratford Bus Station at 19:50hrs on Saturday, 15 June, were met with hostility by a large crowd of people.

"Around 100 members of the public threw bottles and missiles at police.

"A woman was injured when she fell down stairs at the tube entrance. Her injuries are not life threatening.

"Three people were arrested, two on suspicion of being in possession of an offensive weapon, one on suspicion of robbery."

Police also confirmed that a Section 60 order was put in place around the Stratford area until 3am.
