He shocked the world when he opened up about his near-death experience in 2007 when an accidental overdose nearly cost him his life.

But rapper Eminem has celebrated his eleventh year of sobriety - and says he's not afraid.

The hip hop star has always spoken openly about his addiction and recovery in his music and previously revealed how close he came to paying the ultimate price.

But after making a big decision in 2008 he hasn't looked back.

The 46-year-old shared his anniversary by posting a photo of his sobriety medallion.

"In 2007, I overdosed on pills, and I went into the hospital," he said.

"I was close to 230 pounds. I’m not sure how I got so big, but I have ideas."

He added to Men's Journal in 2015: "'The coating on the Vicodin and the Valium I’d been taking for years leaves a hole in your stomach, so to avoid a stomach-ache, I was constantly eating - and eating badly.

"When I got out of rehab, I needed to lose weight, but I also needed to figure out a way to function sober.

"Unless I was blitzed out of my mind, I had trouble sleeping. So I started running. It gave me a natural endorphin high, but it also helped me sleep, so it was perfect.

"It’s easy to understand how people replace addiction with exercise. One addiction for another but one that’s good for them."

Fans were quick to credit the star after another year clean.
