Angel Di Maria has opened up on his bust-up with Louis van Gaal which ultimately led to his Manchester United exit after just one season at Old Trafford.
The Argentine returned to the Theatre of Dreams with Paris Saint-Germain last week and turned in an impressive display as the French champions ran out 2-0 winners in the first leg of their Champions League last-16 tie.
But he was given a rough ride by United fans with the loudest cheer of the night reserved for Ashley Young clattering the winger into the advertising boards at the side of the pitch.
Di Maria arrived at United for a British record transfer fee in the summer of 2014 but endured a miserable time before leaving for Paris at the end of the season.
And he has spoken of his relationship with Van Gaal, which soured partway through the campaign.
“I was at Manchester and everything was fine with Van Gaal during the first two months,†he told Argentine TV programme ESPN Redes. "After one fight, things weren’t the same. The relationship wasn’t the same.
“The fight with Van Gaal occurred because he was always showing me bad and negative things and all that held me back.
"One day I fought with him. I told him I didn’t want to see those things anymore, that I was doing things well and asked him why he wasn’t showing me good things.
"He did not like how I spoke to him and from there the whole problem started."
Di Maria said his confidence improved drastically after joining PSG under now Arsenal boss Unai Emery.
He added: "Confidence is always another thing when you feel more at ease, and with the confidence to be able to play."
