Thugs rob foreigner, give him Sh500 to get a taxi

Police in Nairobi are looking for a gang believed to be behind a series of robberies targeting foreigners in the city.

In the first incident, Claus Opperman, a German national was robbed of more than Sh100,000 around Kilimani area.

He had requested a taxi to take him to Arboretum from Lenana-Kayawe Road junction but before he got to his destination, two men jumped in.

Opperman was taken to an apartment along Forest Road where he was ordered to surrender his ATM card at gunpoint.

After withdrawing the cash, the thugs gave him back his card and Sh500 to get a cab back home.

In a separate incident, Italian missionaries were robbed of their phones and bank cards along Lang’ata road on Sunday.


According to police records, the nuns were heading to church when their car developed a mechanical problem.

They took it to a garage and hopped into a taxi but were attacked when they came back.

One of the missionaries, Bertelli Silvio, was shot on her thigh during the scuffle.
