“Al-Shabaab forces depleted,” says US Africa Command

A new outfit engaged in the war against terror in war-tone Somalia has revealed that the number of Al-Shabaab militants is on the decline, following series of recent attacks on them.

US Africa Command, a group encompassing joint efforts of soldiers drawn from the US and Somalia Federal Government has lauded the impacts of six airstrikes which it says has killed many militants in the region.

“We currently assess the airstrikes on December 15 killed 34 militants…On December 16 killed 28 militants. All these time we assess these airstrikes did not kill or injure any civilian,” reads a statement released by the US Africa Command.

According to the statement, the airstrikes were launched in Garndashe area, a place known to be used as safe haven by the militants.

The group has attributed their achievement to the ability to block the Al-Shabaab militants from using ‘remote areas as safe haven plots.’ This it says, will prevent the terrorist group from launching future attacks, terrorizing locals or recruiting new members into the sect.

The peace keeping group has already identified areas believed to be targeted by the Al-Shabaab group. Southern and Central Somalia is some of the areas, where the militants retreat to steal humanitarian aids, extort money from the locals to fund its activities as well as sheltering its members.
