Rivalry in Orange party stems from bids to succeed governors

Reports of rival camps within the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) have been linked to a brewing battle to succeed governors in Luo Nyanza that are serving their second and last term.

A senior politician, who has since been made to appear as the ring leader of the rebel group, is said to have indicated his intention to run for governorship come 2022.

Grapevine has learnt that a second term MP, who is also eyeing the county job, was behind the narrative to create a political contest between the senior politician and Opposition leader Raila Odinga.

The plot is to present the senior politician in the eye of the electorate as antagonistic and going against Raila, who enjoys fanatical support.
