DP Ruto: The handshake is not license for “conmanship”

Deputy President (DP) William Ruto has accused opposition leader Raila Odinga of planning to divide Jubilee Party through the handshake.

The DP on Sunday claimed ODM Leader Raila Odinga was taking advantage of the unity deal with President Uhuru Kenyatta to further his personal political agenda.

“The handshake is not a license so that you can bring confusion, propaganda and conman-ship into our party,”said Ruto in a veiled attack at the ODM Party leader.

President Kenyatta and Mr Odinga shook hands on May 9 and announced that they will work together for the sake of national unity and development.

After the handshake, Mr Odinga has been termed a traitor by his supporters and some members of the National Super Alliance (Nasa) but he has asked them to trust him.

The DP alleged that the plot is to see him leave the party “the way they did way back when I was in ODM”.

Accompanied by several leaders drawn from the region, Ruto put to rest emerging allegations that he influenced some legislators to tarnish Raila Odinga’s position in the V.A.T fuel debate two weeks ago.

Malindi Member of Parliament Aisha Jumwa downplayed ODM’s disciplinary actions against her for backing Ruto’s presidential bid, saying the residents stand to gain immensely in their renewed political stand.

The government has injected 60 billion shillings to fast track the construction of the Mombasa-Malindi dual carriage highway as well as the refurbishment of inland roads across the region.
