Chebukati takes up election role in Rwanda

Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Chairman Wafula Chebukati is currently in Rwanda on an observer mission.

The country is currently holding its Parliamentary elections and Chebukati is set to benchmark on various areas including the cost of elections and Diaspora voting.

Head of the African Union Mission Aichatou Mindaodou is also in Rwanda to oversee the process.

Kenyans were however far from impressed when they learnt about this news, urging Chebukati to first sort out the troubles at IEBC back home, including accounting for a Sh 9.2 billion expenditure.

Rarieda MP Otiende Amollo, on the other hand, lauded the whole process which is facilitated by volunteers.

“Elections preparations in Rwanda.., they say elections here are like a Wedding, to be Celebrated & enjoyed, facilitated by volunteers, and all materials sourced locally,” he posted on his official Twitter page.

Rwandans went to the polls on Monday and most polling stations were open by 7 am.

The elections have been peaceful with several observers impressed by the smooth running of activities.

This will be the fourth parliament since Rwanda held its first post-genocide legislative elections in 2003.

According to analysts, the Rwandan Patriotic Front (RPF) is certain to win a majority of the seats due to its popularity among locals.
