Only castration will stop these rapists, says senator

News
 Isiolo Senator Fatuma Dullo

A politician wants the law changed to allow for the castration of child molesters and rapists.

Isiolo Senator Fatuma Dullo is deeply worried over rising cases of defilement of school children, and is proposing that “any man found guilty of defiling our girls should be castrated. It is unfortunate that as we speak, girls aged seven and 20 years have been defiled and are recovering in hospitals. I will do everything in my power, including consult FIDA, to ensure that culprits are brought to book and victims get justice,” said Dullo at Isiolo Stadium during the County Education Day.

According to the senator, it is an abomination for a man to defile his child, instead of protecting them.

Dullo also called on residents of Isiolo to shun outdated and retrogressive practices like early marriages and nomadic lifestyles, which she blamed for the high school dropout rates and poor education standards in the area.

“Girls who are forced into early marriages and boys who take care of their family’s livestock all end up dropping out of school, leading to the low school enrolment and poor academic performance currently witnessed in the area,” Dullo said. “I urge the county commissioner to take the leadership mantle and call a meeting of all education stakeholders in the area,” she said.

“The forum will discuss the dwindling academic fortunes and recommend mechanisms to reverse the trend, because education is the best inheritance a child can get from the parent or society,” said the MP who is pained that her county was ranked last in the national examinations out of all the eight counties in the entire eastern region.

“If you don’t give education to children, they will have nothing to show in future. Some may be forced to turn to crime and other vices in order to earn a livelihood,” warned Dullo, adding that it was unfortunate that some parents skipped education forums where important education matters are discussed.
