Security beefed up ahead of President Uhuru swearing-in ceremony

Security has been heightened in Nairobi and its environs just few hours to the swearing in of president elect Mr. Uhuru Kenyatta for his second term.

The much anticipated ceremony which is stipulated to happen on Tue of 28th November is one of its kind with over 20 heads of states expected to jet in the country for the ceremony.

This comes barely a week after the Supreme Court gave Uhuru’s re- election a clean bill of health, throwing out the case filed by former Kilome Mp Harun Mwau challenging the 26th August elections.

While addressing the media on Monday 27 November, Nairobi County police Commander Japheth Koome, in strong terms, assured the general public of maximum security during and after 28th swearing in.

“We are expecting many international leaders and head of states and therefore there would be no compromise on security on that day”, he said.

He also gave out a stern warning to anybody who will be found causing trouble on the shortlisted roads that he now refers to as “red zone” to be dealt with in accordance with the law.

“There will be maximum security on Mombasa road, Uhuru highway, Museum hill, and Wangari Maathai Road, Thika Super Highway and Kasarani complex. The law will deal with anybody found causing trouble on these red zones,” he added.

The Assumption of the Office Committee has confirmed that the preparations for the ceremony which is stipulated to cost not less than Ksh.300 Million at Kasarani stadium is ripe and urges all Kenyans to attend adding that gates will be open by 4am.

“We expect over 100thousand Kenyans to attend the ceremony tomorrow, the security agencies have assured us of safety. We want to have a function that befits the president,” said Dr. Karanja Kibichu.

Meanwhile, National Resistance Movement, through their CEO Norman Magaya has confirmed that they will hold a parallel prayer meeting on the same date to commemorate the lives supporters lost during subsequent demonstrations.

Deputy President elect Mr. William Ruto is also expected to take oath of office on that day.
