The number of votes President Uhuru garnered in Kisumu County

On Monday October 30, the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Chairman Wafula Chebukati declared President Uhuru Kenyatta winner of the repeat presidential election that was held on October 26.

While the IEBC Chair was announcing the results from Kisumu County, people cheered after hearing that President Uhuru Kenyatta had more votes than National Super Alliance (NASA) leader Raila Odinga. This is because Kisumu is considered to be NASA stronghold.

“Kisumu County, 539, 579 registered voters, Aukot 2 votes, Dida 1 vote, Jirongo nil, Kaluyu nil, Kenyatta 886, Michael Mwaura 0, Nyaka 3, Odinga 7,” said Wafula Chebukati while reading the results.

The IEBC Chair said that he was satisfied with the results of the repeat presidential election. He said that announcing the outcome without results from the 25 constituencies in Nyanza will not affect anything. He also went ahead and said that he had endured a lot of criticism for the sake of Kenyans.

All eyes are now on NASA leader Raila Odinga who earlier said that they will never recognize Uhuru as president if he won, stating that the October 26 election was a sham since voters did not have confidence in President Uhuru’s government. He also went ahead and said that only 3.5 million voted according to the KIEMS Kit, which is about 20 per cent of the total registered voters.

“According to the KIEMS Kit which were biometrically used to identify the registered voters, only 3.5 million people participated in the voting yesterday (October 26); that is just about 20 per cent of the total registered voters. That shows basically that the people don’t have confidence, it is a vote of no confidence in the government of President Kenyatta. And if I were him, he would actually resign or step aside because the people have shown that they do not have confidence,” said Raila during the interview with CNN.
