New developments on suspect who attacked DP Ruto’s Sugoi home

The Ethiopian man who was suspect to attacking Deputy President William Ruto’s home in Sugoi has been charged.

Ali Elama Wario was accused acting as an accomplice in the crime and has been charged with being a member of the militia group Al Shabaab.

He was also handed a one-month sentence for being in Kenya illegally, charges which he accepted, but denied being a member of Al Shabaab and also being an accomplice to the attack on DP Ruto’s home.

He appeared before Senior Magistrate Kennedy Cheruiyot.

State prosecutor Ms Everlyn Maika told the court that the accused used a cell phone to communicate with the killed attacker at the DP’s home.

“Police from the Anti-Terrorism Police Unit have discovered through investigations that the accused is still communicating with members of the Al-Shabaab terrorist group,” said Ms Maika.

The case is set to be determined on Friday, even after Elama’s lawyer Mr Ayuma David requested that his client be released on bond.
