Youthful man joins Nairobi gubernatorial race as an independent candidate

The Nairobi gubernatorial race is heating up further as a youthful candidate announced joining the contest as an independent candidate.

Christopher Mokaya has announced that he is set to bring change in the county as he seeks to face Governor Evans Kidero, Senator Mike Sonko and Perer Kenneth in the August polls.

He said his move is inspired by a calling and he is specifically responding to the call to serve at the capital’s top seat, not as a member of the County Assembly or at the Senate.

Mr. Mokaya announced that as an independent candidate, his slogan shall be 'Kijana Bora Jiji Bora.'

“I will have incentives and programs that will attract business-people and investors to Nairobi County as it is business that stands out as the backbone of the city, a move that will also help the national government earn more revenue” said Mokaya.

He said a governor is expected to ensure that public servants in his government are qualified enough and willing to serve the people in their various dockets.

Mokaya, in his declaration argued that it is important that a Governor warrants that the County budget is in line with the pledges he makes before elections so as to deliver on his promises once elected by the people.

He pointed out corruption as a great enemy to development saying he would seek to have a government free of the ill and that he is not seeking to be a politician but rather a servant and leader.

Mokaya, who had an exclusive meeting with a section of pressmen admitted that so far the county leadership had failed to deliver to the youth in sports a situation replicated in the other counties as well.

He has pledged to support the sector which according to him has a large number of youthful participants and would use it to ensure that they shun crime.
