Best time to ferry fuel is at night

The decision to ban trucks from transporting flammable materials at night was informed by the Naivasha chemical fire accident whose contributory factors were said to be unmarked speed bumps and speeding.

Statistically, the accident was an isolated case but the Government went ahead to prohibit night movement of fuel trucks.

The factors of unmarked bumps and siphoning of fuel are controllable. However, the risks posed by transporting fuel whether by road, rail or underground pipes are unavoidable and efforts should be directed at reducing collateral damage.

Night remains the best time to transport fuel.
