JOHO’S DEPUTY DEFECTS TO JUBILEE, LAUNCHES BID FOR MOMBASA SENATOR

Mombasa deputy governor Hazel Katana on Saturday defected from ODM to the Jubilee party.

Speaking at Lohar Hall, Mombasa county when she met a number of Jubilee politicians, who included Nairobi women representative Rachel Shebesh and nominated Senator Beatrice Elachi she hinted that she has launched her bid for Mombasa Senator after abandoning Governor Hassan Joho’s ODM outfit.

Hazel said she was left in the cold while in ODM since last year. This prompted her to think of an alternative option.

The deputy governor was temporarily ejected from her office during last year’s Malindi by-election campaigns after she was accused by the ODM leadership in Mombasa of campaigning for Jubilee.

Her official car was withdrawn and her office furniture taken away.
The same were later returned to her.

Director of communication, Mombasa County Richard Chacha said her defection to Jubilee was a relief to the party. He further said that they are not interested in sideshows because they are focused on winning the August 8th elections both in the county and national level.

However, Mrs. Katana asked the Mombasa governor to respect her decision.

She becomes the second deputy governor to defect from a party that sponsored her to the office.

According to Chidzuga, Mbura, and Mvita, the defection of Hazel to Jubilee has strengthened the party in Mombasa.

Meanwhile, another defector from ODM to Jubilee in the region is Mildred Odinga, who was a coordinator at ward level.
