CJ MARAGA PUTS ANTI-CORRUPTION AGENCIES ON TOES

Chief Justice David Maraga has put anti-corruption agencies on toes and asked those involved in fighting corruption to end blame games by playing their roles.

The CJ during the launch if the Anti-corruption and economic crimes division at Milimani Law Courts said corruption in the country is pandemic and fighting it calls for collaborative efforts.

He has challenged investigative agencies to expeditiously investigate cases before presenting evidence to enable delivery of justice through a fair hearing.

"Where the cases are delayed or shoddy investigations, we will not take the blame but and the public will be told," said the CJ.

He said corruption had stained the beauty and greatness of the country and promised to designate more magistrates to hear and determine cases at the division that had been gazetted in July and was awaiting outline of the procedure of justice delivery.

He called on LSK head Isaac Okero to alert members of the society that underserved adjournments will not be granted for those seeking fake tactics to interfere with hearing.

'Most government senior officials are fond of seeking an adjournment for various excuses but we will only grant them deservingly," he said.

Mr. Okero at the launch lauded the CJ for the establishment of the new division saying it was a milestone in the fight against corruption likening it to a kitchen where big and small fish shall be cooked.

"This is now a fully furnished kitchen with chefs to prepare Omena and Mbuta. However, when preparing Mbuta, a generous chili amount has to be used,“ said Mr. Okero, implying that more efforts are needed to tackle the 'big fish'.

Mr. Maraga added that the public needs to be forgiven for thinking that those in power and the rich can never be convicted.

He said once evidence beyond any reasonable doubt is provided, justice will be delivered without fear or favour.
