I funded my SONU campaigns with Sh500 - KIPCHUMBA MURKOMEN

I joined the University of Nairobi, Parkland Campus in 2000 for a Bachelor of Law degree.

‘Trade Investment’ unit was my favourite, but I abhorred “Accounting for lawyers” perhaps because the lecturer was an accountant, not a lawyer.

I had many favourite lecturers and won’t say who was my least favourite. On matter sports I was footballer, a striker when not evangelizing the word even overseas. I joined students politics and helped to successfully revive the Sonu constitution to allow formation of a students’ parliament. I recall using only Sh500 to campaign but still I was elected chairman of the Kenya Law School Students Society while in second year. I was also the chair of Inter-college Student Council.

I spent the Sh500 on my photo and few posters. Today students spend millions in elections. I largely honed my leadership skills with the Christian Union and not only as chair of Parklands campus. In fact, my best moments were winning souls to Christ. It is still refreshing when I meet comrades who confess they were converted through my preaching.

Unforgettable campus friends include Gladys She, a classmate and now mother to my children, Patrick Mariru the current Laikipia County Speaker, Fidelis Wangata, a lawyer in London and Osogo Ambani, a lecturer at Strathmore University.

Hon Murkomen graduated with an LLB from the University of Nairobi in 2004 besides two LLM degrees from the American University Washington College of Law and University of Pretoria, South Africa.
