I do not know how to tell it out but I think I would be able to tell it.It has been told over and over that it has become part of what I may say ’the new-norm’.

It is not that I would bury my head into the sand and not say that I do not know it is happening but before I stand on a hill and shout at you to stop placing bets and whatnots allow me to tell you my part and why I hate to love betting and the family altogether.

Back when I was in high school, at a certain institution engulfed by hilly neighbors of Kwa-Maiko and Kibichoi villages somewhere in Kiambu where you had to pass through some inroads that rumour mill had it that they headed to the home current President though I kind of did not believe due to the state of the roads, between the year 2008 and 2012 like every young boy growing up football was part of my life.

Being a Liverpool football club fan to me was not just watching it play but defending it in every single way possible in all football discussion forums in the school. I remember together with me was another guy named Gerrard. It seems weird right? Only two Liverpool fans in a population of near 800 students  and more so ,the Reds, as commonly known when everyone my age did support the likes of Chelsea, Manchester United and Arsenal.it looked that liked that small political party(names withheld) seeking fielding a Presidential candidate to dethrone the Incumbent.

During one of such forums a big game was coming up. Liverpool was to face Chelsea fc in London and considering how ,at that time, the club was performing ,a win here and several defeats there, this match against the blues was a bragging rights match if a win for the then Brendan Rodgers-boys was anything to go by. Remember I was and still are pessimistic about placing bets and so  on this day, during a ‘heated debate’ a guy said “put your money where your mouth is” and they went on to ‘incite’ me to place my to Kshs.200 on the side of my mouth. Two hundred shillings in High School was like Eurobond. It was a lot of money. Yeah, it depends with your kind of school. Nothing came out of it.it was not to brag about but be grabbed.

It did confirm my fears. I should never ever place a bet.

I came to realize that it is not for the love of the game but money.one would jackpot Kshs.100 with the hopes of pocketing some good sums of money but it ends up ‘drinking water’. It is not that I am discouraging the entrepreneurial spirit of risk taking but what on a fair scale there are great ways to get that paper. Seriously, I have never seen or heard anyone who won a gamble and maintained it. Or years later, your son who you always brag to about how you were successful in school asks you how made your money and wants advise in life. I think ‘Just know that I am a big deal would be the answer.’

I have never been in doubt than ever at the rate at which we, as young people, have become such a gullible generation that we can consume anything that comes our way. We need to define our principles in life and what one needs and have a strategy.

Let join together in this and work with our hands and brains too and not on that smartphone

Psst! The last time I was there those roads were nicely built.Yes,that road to the President.
