Will the Luhya leaders be the end of Kenyan politics?

In the recent past, especially from 2013 to date, there have been a plethora of politicians from the Luhya nation. Each one of them boast to be in possession of voters' decision. Surprisingly some have already dug their political graves early, courtesy of their political decisions.

It is quite notable that each county namely Busia, Kakamega, Bungoma and Vihiga have their political bigwigs. For instance in Bungoma County incumbent Senator Moses Wetangula is a man to watch having been re-elected in the by-elections which he got a landslide victory against Musikari Kombo. He had even declared his presidential bid although this action received criticism; such as during his launch at Muliro gardens in Kakamega which went into a limbo.

The question is whether he will be able to command support from other counties. Some analysts have even said that he needs ODM more than it needs him. Could it be that his rise to fame is attributed to his close ties with the ODM flag bearer and opposition leader Raila Odinga?

In Kakamega County the war is between the current Senator Bonny (bull fighter) Khalwale and the current Governor Wycliffe Oparanya. The war and leadership supremacy between them began when Khalwale hinted his quest to go for the gubernatorial seat. Surprisingly they are under the same coalition (Coalition for Reforms and Democracy - CORD). Will Governor Oparanya defend his seat or will he be defeated by the outspoken senator? Furthermore other politicians like Cirus Jirongo are in for the same race. Who will command Kakamega County vote?

In addition Vihiga County has Alliance National Congress party Leader Musalia Mudavadi. Mudavadi was accused in 2013 for being hired by Jubilee administration to destroy opposition's votes. Quests have been made requiring Mudavadi to join CORD if he wants the support of Luhya people again lest he faces the same political lesson he was taught in the 2013 general elections. In case he joins opposition as anticipated will he win back the Luhya vote?

Busia County (popularly referred to as ODM County) has for long been a darling to opposition. For instance nearly all members of parliament, Members of County Assembly, Senator and Governor are from Opposition. Budalang'i legislator Ababu Namwamba, who is also ODM’s Secretary General is the most outspoken in the County. Furthermore, the current Governor Sospeter Ojaamong'u will be defending gubernatorial seat on an ODM ticket. All the same Funyula Member of parliarment Dr. Paul Otuoma is also bracing for the same seat on ODM ticket. Will Ojaamong'u defeat his opponents who have already launched a steamy campaign? Others include Eng. Sidai and Eng. Daniel Barasa.

With this in mind unity is what may give the Luhya nation what it wants in future. Its leaders should thus forget about their personal interests and work in unison.
