David Ndii's disintegration proposal reckless

For the last two weeks, a politically divided nation has been debating radical proposals by economist David Ndii.

As expected, the Opposition welcomed Ndii's proposal, hailing it as evidence that the Government had failed on national cohesion. In reality, however, CORD is preparing the ground for potential defeat at next year's presidential polls.

It was equally disturbing for Chief Justice Willy Mutunga to align himself with Ndii's intellectual dishonesty. In comments posted on his Twitter handle, Dr Mutunga criticises Peter Kagwanja's expose of Ndii.

It is interesting the Chief Justice found it fit to attack Prof Kagwanja for exposing an incitement presented as an intellectual treatise but chose to stay silent when Ndii proposed the break-up of Kenya.

Ndii advanced the view that the regions are rich in various resources and can sustain themselves if given the opportunity to determine their own destiny.

Many regions around the world are moving towards integration, creating large economic blocs to take advantage of their individual strengths, create a market for goods and services and have a stronger voice on the international stage.

In East Africa, we have made gradual but significant steps towards integration and the benefits are already evident. Today, one does not need a passport to travel to Uganda or Rwanda. A national identity card suffices as a travelling document.

It is therefore incredulous for Ndii to propose a break-up into smaller units. What advantage would these small units have in terms of trade and international trade negotiations?

Let's ignore the naysayers who predict doom at every turn. Let's hold our governments accountable to ensure they deliver on heir manifesto. Let's identify our challenges and deal with them as a nation.
