Uhuru heckling in Kisumu unfortunate

The heckling of President Uhuru Kenyatta by charged youths in Kisumu on Sunday during his tour in Obunga and Kondele slums demonstrates how poisonous our politics has become.

Young people have reduced themselves to being used to settle political scores. This is indeed the new low that our politics has reached.

The youths must remember that political zoning of sections of this country is what resulted to the current mess of regional imbalance and marginalisation that have haunted us for generations.

Our system allows for political competition but we must not allow ourselves be carried away too much with party politics at the expense of our national good and sense of patriotism.I will remind you the words of Abraham Lincoln, America’s 16th president: “We are not enemies, but friends. We must not be enemies. Though passion may have strained, it must not break our bonds of affection.”

We must play politics of restraint, mutual respect and love not only for each other but for the nation. I’m not only talking about the youths in Kisumu but all of us across the country
