Build children's homes in every county

Every county should strive to have a children’s home to reduce the number of children roaming the streets.

In the late 70s and 80s we had leaders mindful of children’s welfare and started children’s homes such as the famous Mama Ngina and Mama Fatuma.

These homes are still catering for thousands of destitute children.

Many other homes have since been built but they are not enough to cater for all the needy young ones roaming the streets.

How about county leaders setting up homes in their regions to ensure more needy cases are addressed?

It is not enough that during the festive seasons, leaders and local mwananchi visit children homes to donate food, clothes, shoes, books and school uniform to put a smile of the faces of these little ones.

The philanthropy often displayed during special days towards the destitute children is good. But after that many Kenyans go about their duties and routines completely unaware of the suffering the street children go through. Besides lacking basic things, these children are despised by nearly everyone. They grow up as hateful individuals.

Every county should start a children’s home, to alleviate the pain of orphans and children in the streets.

This is the only way to reduce street crime and cultivate good virtues in a society that needs to empathise more with the less fortunate.
