All forces must unite to stop Burundi killings

Fellow East Africans, we are about to witness another round of senseless mass murder in Burundi, if the unfolding events are not stopped.

The latest report from Bujumbura tells of bodies of people, allegedly killed by government forces, for whatever reason, strewn in the capital city.

Now, such happenings will only help to stoke the “imminent genocide fire” and cannot be wished away.

I call upon the UN Security Council not to wait another day, but call for an urgent meeting in regard to what is now happening in Burundi.

It is unacceptable for the UN to give the same response they gave when a blood bath exploded in Rwanda.

UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon should move swiftly and stop the merchants of death from planning a genocide in Burundi.

Back in the region, the four East African presidents should convene an urgent meeting to stop the innocent killing of defenceless civilians in Burundi. If necessary, they should pile immense pressure on President Pierre Nkurunziza to step aside and save the country from plunging into war. He is incapable of uniting the citizens.

I call upon Christians, Muslims and all God-fearing people to pray for the people of Burundi.
