Sauti Sol dissapoints fans once again with new song in the US

Sauti Sol have a song called “Mafunzo ya Dunia” (Teachings of the World). I believe one of these teachings is not attacking disappointed fans after poor performances. The boy band appears to have missed this class while chasing the girl called "mullah" based on a string of poor performances in Atlanta, Seattle and Los Angeles.

Sauti Sol’s reaction to complaints from disappointed fans seems to epitomize the problem facing this group of talented Kenyans; success has gotten to their heads! It has resulted in the bands promoters going after critics using threatening texts and phone messages, profanity and threats of frivolous litigation. This needs to stop!

My advice to the group is for them to get professional promoters that know what they are doing. The amateurism of Sauti Sol’s performances not only reflects poorly on the bands brand generally, but also damages the image of Kenyan music more specifically. The challenges the band faced in the US were self-inflicted due to incompetent planning and organization.

In Seattle for instance some band members missed their connecting flight to the concert venue. In Los Angeles, the band overcharged fans at the door ($40), played for 15 minutes (for a four hour concert) and had a shambolic sound system that would have made a 1950’s gramophone sound exceptional! Atlanta was no different with the performance starting late and ending early. This boils down to a simple fact, Sauti Soul is taking its diaspora fan base for granted.

It is my hope Sauti Sol will gets its house in order! Attacking disappointed fans will not solve self-inflicted wounds. Mafunzo ya dunia lazima yaeleweke. (The world’s teachings must be understood). Your harshest critics are your most loyal fans!
