Man jailed for slashing brother

A man who slashed his brother on the face after a domestic difference has been jailed for four months by a Gucha court.

Job Machera Ogero committed the offence on April 11, at Kenuchi village, Gucha South District. He admitted that he unlawfully assaulted Kennedy Kaunda, occasioning him actual bodily harm.

He was, however, given the alternative of paying a Sh7,000 fine. The court heard that Ogero went home and found his brother chatting with his mother inside their house.

On seeing him, Ogero rushed to his house a few metres away, armed himself with a panga and advanced towards Kaunda and started cutting him. Kaunda raised alarm and neighbours rushed to the scene. Ogero fled. Kaunda, who was bleeding profusely, was rushed to Gucha District hospital where he was treated and discharged.

In mitigation, Ogero prayed for lenience saying he did not know why he committed the offence.

A social valuation report presented in court indicated that Ogero, a class three dropout, had differed with his brother after his cow grazed on a common border between their plots. Ogembo Principal Magistrate Lily Nafula ordered that he pays the fine or serve four months in jail in default.
