Man charged with threatening to hack ex-wife to death out on bond

A man in Kariobangi is accused of threatening to kill his estranged wife.

Mirriam Njeri told officers at Kariobangi police station that Samwel Maina Mbugua who was armed with a panga unlawfully threatened to chop her into small pieces on November 6 within a church in Kariobangi North.

Mbugua was also charged with the offence of conspiracy to commit a felony an offence to which he pleaded not guilty.

According to the investigations, the two were previously married but Njeri decided to quit the union in 2018 together with their two kids due to his frequent threats. This did not, however, sit well with Mbugua.

Before the incident, Mbugua is reported to have been looking for Njeri within the estate and when he learned of her whereabouts, he is alleged to have followed her to the church while armed with a panga.

Njeri, however, managed to escape through the back door and rushed to the local police station where she reported the matter. Officers were then sent to the church and confirmed his presence.

Normal activities were disrupted as worried congregants watched from a distance. Mbugua was eventually arrested but denied the charges when he appeared before Makadara Senior Principal Magistrate Hellen Onkwani. He was released on a Sh300,000 bond pending hearing on April 4 next year.

In another incident, a Kayole has denied assaulting a woman who dumped him.

Moses Okiabera is said to have forcefully entered through the window of Elizabeth Wanjiru's house on November 3 in the Sanford area before proceeding to assault her in the presence of her children.
He also allegedly damaged her Amtec TV set, Infinix mobile phone, Reno phone and a wooden table all valued at Sh31,400.
The duo is said to have been dating for six months before Wanjiru opted out of the relationship.
