Man denies impersonating President Uhuru’s aide-de- camp and faking daughter’s death

A man has been charged in a Kiambu court with impersonating President Uhuru Kenyatta’s aide-de-camp and faking his daughter’s death to solicit funds. Vincent Saruni denied impersonating Timothy Stelu Lekolool, a public officer, contrary to the law.

Kiambu Chief Magistrate Patricia Gichohi directed Saruni to deposit Sh10,000 with the court or execute a Sh200,000 bond to secure his freedom.

The magistrate directed the case to be heard on August 17 after the prosecutor told the court he is lining up three witnesses to testify. The defence lawyer asked to be supplied with all documentary evidence and exhibits that the prosecution intends to use for trial.

According to the charge sheet, Saruni was accused that on diverse dates between May 13 and June 10 at unknown place he presented himself  on Facebook as Lekolool seeking to be assisted to bury his daughter who had died.

Saruni was arrested on June 19  and accused that on May 30, he shared falsely published information using social media account, specifically Facebook on comedian Teacher Wanjiku saying: “There is nothing to smile about, I
just lost my daughter. Keep me in prayers Wanjiku The Teacher…its well” information he knew was misleading and fictitious about Lekolool’s daughter.

He was also accused that on May 31, he wrote another false information implying that the alleged ‘dead daughter’ was to be buried the following day.

“We shall lay my daughter to rest tomorrow June 1 in Karen,” Saruni posted on Facebook using a parody account.

The court was told the information by the accused was intended to influence members of the public to contribute funds when he knew it was false.
