Hodgson to allow players spend with their Wives ahead of Euro

Euro 2016 will see the ‘Return of the Wags’ as England boss Roy Hodgson gives his players the chance to relax with their loved ones.

He wants a ‘professional, focused’ atmosphere for his stars at the team HQ in Chantilly, near Paris, but will allow wives and girlfriends to visit.

The approach will be a repeat of his stance during Euro 2012 in Poland, stopping short of the Wags (players’ wives and girlfriends) invasion of Baden Baden during the 2006 World Cup in Germany.

“I trust the players, I think they do their work and when they are not working they are still thinking and preparing for games.

“I don’t want to lock them away.

“I want to reproduce an environment not vastly different from their daily lives, in order to get performances not vastly different from the ones they produce every week in the Premier League.”

Roy Hodgson’s 23-man squad for Euro 2016 will no doubt include all sorts of different types of player.

Tall ones and short ones, fast ones and (in the case of Gary Cahill), some not so fast ones… the England boss will want as many options as possible at his disposal.
