Wambua names 35-man squad for Africa Sevens

The Kenya Rugby Union has named a 35-man provisional Kenya men’s sevens squad ahead of the Rugby Africa 7s taking place in Harare, Zimbabwe on September 16th.

This year’s tournament doubles up as the African Qualification Tournament for the Paris 2024 Olympics. Shujaa have been grouped in Group B alongside Zambia, Namibia and Nigeria.

Group A features South Africa, Madagascar, Tunisia and Ivory Coast with Group C comprising of Uganda, hosts Zimbabwe, Burkina Faso and Algeria.

The tournament will be coach Kelvin Wambua’s first major assignment as a sevens coach. The youthful tactician replaced Damian McGrath, who was shown the door last month.

KRU boss Sasha Mutai stated that they have complete trust in coach Kevin Wambua and his group, who have displayed remarkable commitment and competence in their specific areas.

“With their knowledge and the steadfast backing of our supporters, we are assured that our team will bring honor to our country as they work towards achievements on the global platform," Mutai said.

Rising star Kevin Wekesa leads the Kabras Sugar contingent which consists of Brian Tanga, William Muhanji and Lamech Ambetsa.
