Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST RFC) will renew their rivalry with Strathmore University Leos in the ‘Varsity Derby’ quarterfinals of the Kakamega Sevens on Sunday at The Bull Ring in Kakamega.

MMUST sailed through to the quarters after finishing second in Group A behind circuit leaders Menengai Oilers.

The students defeated Nondescripts 14-12 before sharing the spoils in a tight 12-12 second match against Vihiga Granites.

Despite losing 26-7 to Oilers, the Kakamega-based university students progressed to the knock out stages and will face Leos at 11am.

Prinsloo Sevens champions Oilers on the other hand will face off against surprise package Catholic Monks who defied all odds from a tough Group B to reach quarters.

Monks and Leos progressed from the group which saw Kisumu RFC miss out. Mwamba pulled out of the final leg due to the passing of their team manager.

Other quarterfinals will feature KCB take on Homeboyz as Nakuru face local outfit Kabras Sugar.

Oilers are currently four points (94) ahead of the bankers in the race to clinch the overall title and they need to reach the finals to secure the title.
