The rugby fraternity was on Monday thrown into mourning after the death of Mwamba Rugby club team manager Stephanie-Rose Otieno.

Otieno was on her way back to Nairobi on Monday morning after attending the Prinsloo 7s tournament where the team lost their 5th place semifinal match 21-19 against Kabras Sugar.

Otieno, has been part of Mwamba's technical bench since 2019, and her death has put the Kenya Cup side Mwamba RFC in mourning with many describing her as a dedicated leader.

‘‘It is with shock and horror that we are saddened to inform you of the passing away of our Team Manager, Stephanie-Rose Otieno in a car crash in Nakuru early this morning. More information to follow,’’ Mwamba posted on their social account.

The country's rugby governing body, Kenya Rugby Union and other rugby outfits in the country led Rugby fraternity in eulogizing Otieno.

“We join the Mwamba RFC family in mourning Stephanie -Rose Otieno. Rest In Peace,” read KRU statement.

Kabras on their part wrote: “Our condolences to the family and friends of Stephanie and Mwamba RFC following her tragic passing earlier today. Poleni sana.”

Stephanie landed the appointment when the club made changes to the technical bench following the exit of long-serving Director of Rugby Edwin Waita.

The changes saw Tito Oduk named Director of Rugby while Fahad Adil Mohammed was appointed to the club's overall team manager assisted by Alphonce Mwachia who was to be the Logistics Manager and Stephanie-Rose appointed to double as Mwamba Ladies and men's Team Manager.
