An early tee off saw James Warui claim The Realtors Expo golf tournament overall prize at Nanyuki Sports Club, over the weekend.

Warui, who was off the deck at 7:30am, was over the moon after being awarded with a title deed for a plot valued at Sh230,000 at Segere area, along the Nanyuki-Rumuruti road.

He combined 19 and 21 stableford points for a compact total of 40 stableford points to prevail over a lean field of 57 golfers.

The tournament was the highlight of breakfast realtors’ expo with several exhibitors drawn from the real estate sector, where they showcased a wide range of products and services.

Some of the exhibitors included St Christopher's Schools – Nanyuki, Absa Bank, Nimmoh’s Homestays- Airbnb, Waterlift, Certified Homes Ltd - Holiday Homes, Naserian and Marite.

Playing off handicap 12, Warui had a balanced round of 18 raking in 19 stableford points from his front nine before he iced it with 21 stableford points from his back nine to star in the meet.

He also had birdies on the fourth and fifth holes, pars on the sixth and eighth holes, then bogeyed on the second, third, and ninth hole.

After the halfway break, he inked five back-to-back pars on the 10th, 11th, 12th, 13th and 14th holes, before bogeying the 15th, 17th and 18th hole.

“It was my lucky day. I played early with no hold ups throughout my round and as the adage says, early bird catches the worm. I’m happy I caught it today,” Warui said after his victory.

“I'll sell the plot, so if there's anyone who is interested, he can side chat me.”

Finishing second was Daniel Weru, playing off handicap 3, with a fine score of 39 stableford points.

Meanwhile, Purity Githui, playing off handicap 20, triumphed in the ladies' category as she maintained her good form with several podium finishes in the last couple of months.

She carded 37 stableford points for her win. Lady Captain Marion Githuinji was Lady Winner second with a score of 33 stableford points.

Father Martin Ndegwa of Nyeri Golf Club, playing off handicap 13, was the Guest winner on a score of 30 stableford points.

In commercials, Charles Rob won the Longest Drive Men prize, as Muthoni Mwangi won in the ladies category. Cyprian Bundi was Nearest to Pin prize winner.

Three twos were registered during the meet by Gabriel Miungi on the 18th hole, Cyprian Bundi on the 12th and Charles Rob on the third hole.
