The boxing world is in mourning following confirmation that two key members of Anthony Joshua's inner circle were killed in a road accident in Nigeria, an incident that has prompted condolences from political leaders, sporting bodies and fans across the globe.

Joshua's management and Nigerian authorities confirmed that Kevin "Latz" Ayodele, his long-time personal trainer, and Sina Ghami, his strength and conditioning coach, died following the crash, which occurred on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway in Makun, Ogun State.

Both men were widely regarded as instrumental figures in Joshua's career, having worked closely with him for years.

In the aftermath of the tragedy, tributes have poured in from fellow boxers, trainers and fans, many describing Ayodele and Ghami as dedicated professionals who played a crucial role in Joshua's recent resurgence, including preparations for his high-profile bout just weeks ago.

Authorities later confirmed that Joshua was among the occupants of the vehicle but survived with minor injuries.

The former heavyweight champion, who was seated in the back of the Lexus SUV, was treated and is reported to be in stable condition.

According to the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), the crash involved a Lexus SUV and a stationary truck parked along the roadside.

Preliminary findings indicate the vehicle may have been travelling above the prescribed speed limit when it lost control during an overtaking manoeuvre before colliding with the truck.

Police officials said Ayodele and Ghami, who were seated in the front of the vehicle, died at the scene due to the impact.

The Lagos-Ibadan Expressway is one of Nigeria's busiest highways and has a long history of fatal accidents, often attributed to speeding, poor visibility and heavy commercial traffic.

Investigations into the incident are ongoing, with the FRSC and police expected to release a full accident report once reconstruction of the crash is complete.
