Derby have confirmed Wayne Rooney as their new manager on a two-and-a-half-year deal - with the Manchester United and England legend officially announcing his retirement as a player.

Rooney has been acting as the Rams' caretaker boss since Phillip Cocu was sacked earlier this season.
