I feel like a movie star: Miss SA purchases a Benz, new house

We appreciate that the Miss Universe crown holder Stacy Michuki is getting all the attention she deserves.

Well, she had a chance to meet President Uhuru Kenyatta at State House before she left for the Miss Universe finals and since, she has rubbed shoulders with a number of diplomats and other high-profile personalities.

Two, we know she has kicked off her reign on the right footing with her commitment to run her Miss Universe Kenya projects.

In fact, this could be the most active and memorable Miss Universe Kenya crown holder we might have. However, that said, it is how we treat our beauty queens here that remains to be the big debate.

A crown holder is supposed to run the title as a boss and now we are learning lessons from South Africa, free lessons that we can apply in the future if the beauty queen crown tag will be treated with the value it deserves.

This is what is happening in South Africa.

For starters, we know that their Miss Universe finalist Zozibini Tunzi was crowned Miss Universe in December last year after which she moved into her new office in New York where she is enjoying all the trappings of power that comes with the crown.

That meant that she could no longer fulfil her Miss South Africa duties. The Miss South Africa first runner-up Sasha-Lee Laurel had to take the new Miss South Africa mantle. That has now officially been confirmed.

An elated Sasha-Lee moved into her new Miss South Africa posh apartments in Sandton this week, her new residence where she will be staying during her reign.

On Tuesday, the gorgeous queen splashed off her brand-new Mercedes Benz C Class on social media, a gift she received from the Mercedes team, writing, "A big thank you to @mercedesbezsa for gifting me with my new shiny ride to take along my journey as Miss South Africa 2019. Okay, wait, so now we may have to go out for a coffee date!"

"I already feel like a movie star both behind the wheel of my new car and also when I walk into my exquisitely designed and furnished Central Square Sandton apartment," Sasha-Lee said in a press statement.

She further took to Instagram narrating how she enjoyed the city view from the well-polished apartment and noting that she would be inviting her family for Sunday lunch.

The new status does not just come with a palatial home and a classy ride. There is more that will define this new queen that every Kenyan beauty queen or say girl would like to get.

Now, American Swiss, the trusted name in jewellery is set to pamper her with diamonds, yes…diamonds! She will also strut in the luxury of top fashion designs both for her clothes and shoes.

Sasha-Lee, this 26-year-old beauty will enjoy free meals served at the comfort of her apartment - provided by Hyde Park, an upmarket Italian restaurant. She also has access to a hired professional fitness trainer.

“I am so happy for Zozi who deserves, in every way, to wear the Miss Universe sash. I wish her every success. I step into big shoes. I just want Zozi to know that I will do my best to fill them,” she is quoted to have said.

“Taking over the Miss South Africa title means that I am able to continue working to help women who, like me, have been sexually abused. It will be a top priority for me during my time as Miss South Africa.”

And speaking in New York, Zozi had every kind word for her.

I cannot think of anyone who is more suitable to be Miss South Africa. Sasha has it all: beauty, brains and, above all, a commitment to help others. I have no doubt that she will use her reign to help improve a lot of those in need,” Zozi praised.

Well, at least our reigning Miss World Kenya Maria Wavinya went home with some good cash and is enjoying her crown in a well-deserved way at her Westlands, Nairobi, Miss World Kenya office. Still, we must pick lessons from South Africa, for that is the life of a queen.
