KCB face Nondies in Kenya Cup

Champions KCB will be looking to register their third successive win in the Kenya Cup when they travel to Jamhuri Showground to face Nondescripts in one of six matches lined up today.

The bankers, who head to the match on the back of a 15-5 victory against Impala Saracens, would be boosted by the return of Andrew Amonde, Vincent Onyala, Johnstone Olindi, and Jacob Ojee.

The quartet, who were away with the Kenya Sevens team in Dubai and Cape Town, are up for selection having missed three matches including their team’s loss to league leaders Kabras Sugar.

With third-placed Homeboyz hot on their heels, KCB knows that any slip up against Willis Ojal’s charges would see them lose ground in the race for the top two spots.

“Every team always plays to win but it’s the side which takes its chances that comes out on top. All teams in the top six are worthy opponents and you cannot afford to write off anyone. We just want to take a game at a time and adjust our game plan once we reach the playoffs,” said KCB assistant coach Denis Mwanja.

In Nondies, KCB faces a side that has posted inconsistent results since the 2019-20 season started.

Ojal’s men have won three matches in eight attempts and they currently occupy the eighth position with 16 points, 18 less than KCB.

A win for KCB could see them rise to the top of the standings but only if Kabras drop points at home against fifth-placed Menengai Oilers.

The sugar millers are reeling from last weekend’s 20-17 loss to Homeboyz, their first defeat of the season and they will be keen to return to winning ways when they clash with the Nakuru outfit which is on a three-game winning streak.

Homeboyz will visit Mwamba at the Nairobi Railway Club in a match which will see the hosts attempt to end their recent poor run of form. Mwamba, under the tutelage of Kevin Wambua, have suffered two losses in succession including a 15-5 defeat at the hands of Western Bulls last weekend.

Kisumu RFC, who are bottom with a paltry four points, are faced with yet another tough fixture as they host Nakuru RFC while Western Bulls clash with Impala Saracens in Nairobi.

After this weekend’s fixtures, the 12-team league will take a three-week break before action resumes on January 11.
