The National Olympics Committee of Kenya (NOC-K) has embarked on an ambitious sports development plan for the youth.

The sports body will launch the first elite youth camp at Lukenya Academy, along Mombasa Road, today.

The 10-day training programme seeks to impact youth with skills that will enhance their brand identity in their respectively sports discipline ahead of 2022 Youth Olympics Games set for Dakar, Senegal.

The more than 100 youth will be drawn from 13 sporting disciplines; athletics, badminton, basketball, cycling, handball, hockey, judo, wrestling, rugby, taekwondo, tennis, beach volleyball and triathlon.

“The multi-sport camp will include not only technical coaching, but also strength conditioning, nutrition, mentorship and social activities. The aim is to train athletes all round,” said Francis Mutuku, NOC-K acting Secretary General.

“To ensure objective and accountable selections, the national federations were fully involved in the talent identification. At the end of the programme, NOC-K will announce the names of the youth who will benefit from scholarships in January.”

The programme is being conducted and championed by NOCK Youth Commission.
