Bayern Munich stars to boycott German national team if Manuel Neuer is dropped

Bayern Munich president Uli Hoeness has declared that the club will not be sending any players on German international duty if Manuel Neuer is dropped.

The Bayern stopper's position in the national side is under threat from Barcelona 'keeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen.

Ter Stegen has voiced his frustrations over a lack of playing time for his country, leading Hoeness to urge Germany boss Joachim Low to "put him in a corner".

The two goalkeepers have had a recent falling out over ter Stegen's attempts to put pressure on Low to drop Neuer - who is also Germany's captain.

And Hoeness has offered a word of warning to Low that leaving out Neuer will lead to severe repercussions.

"Before that takes place, we won't be sending any more national players," Hoeness told Bild. "We will never accept that there will be a change here."

Neuer was previously regarded as one of the world's greatest goalkeepers, but his form has declined in recent years following a serious injury.

Ter Stegen is very much the new kid on the block, having been nominated as one of only three players for FIFA's Best Goalkeeper award.

The 27-year-old has made it clear he feels he should be Germany's no.1 and stated people shouldn't expect him to be 'happy about it'.

Hoeness believes ter Stegen 'doesn't have a right to play there', and said: "You put Mr Ter Stegen in the corner and tell him clearly that it doesn't work like that."

Low has already wielded the axe on aging Bayern stars Thomas Muller and Jerome Boateng, as well as Mats Hummels who has since joined Borussia Dortmund.

With Neuer now 33, it is felt he is next in line to lose his place as Low prepares his squad for Euro 2020.

But he may think twice about promoting ter Stegen for fear Hoeness could follow through with his warning, with the likes of Bayern stars Serge Gnabry, Niklas Sule and Joshua Kimmich all forming a big part of his plans.

When asked if he has held a conversation with Low, Hoeness added: "He'll already hear what we've said, his ears will ring."
