Lanoline Aoko and Stacy Nameranga each scored to steer Nyanza region champions Nyakach Girls to the semifinals of the ongoing Kenya Secondary Schools National Term Two under 19 girls’ football games in Kisumu.
Nyakach lost 1-0 to Itigo in their second match and needed a win to qualify and head coach Chrispin Odindo congratulated the girls for fighting till the end.
“They never give up spirit held the team together and am happy that even after losing against Itigo the girls fought and survived against a very strong Dagoreti side. We know our weaknesses and now I believe we can improve today,” he said.
Nyakach will now face Arch Bishop Njenga who saw off Gesero 4-0in the semifinals after finishing second in pool A.
Itigo Girls, on the other hand, defeated Karugwa 3-0 to finish top of pool A and will face pool B winners Njambini.
In under 19 football boy’s, Dagoreti Mixed sealed their top finish with a 3-0 win over Western representatives Ebwali.
The Nairobi region champions will now face last year finalists Olbolsat who lost 1-0 to St Anthony’s Kitale and finished second in pool B.
Ebwali were, however, lucky to qualify to the next round after hosts Kisumu Day redeemed themselves with a 2-0 win over Mbooni.
The result meant Ebwali finished second with 4 points and will face pool A winners, St Anthony.
In under 16 football girls, Wiyeta defeated Ugari 3-0 to sail through to semis where they will tackle Kobala. Njambini also qualified after thrashing Dagoreti 3-1 and will face Maeni today.
In racket games, Emitundo Lesley and Alvin Kiprop will face Maxwell Kombo and Ngolia Musembii respectively in the Lawn tennis semifinals after winning their quarterfinal matches.
Naomi Wandili, Metay Walumbe, Britney Misoy, Doroth Melisa Sandra Nailiaka all from the Rift Valley region have booked their tickets to the East African games with 12 positions up for grabs in the girls' badminton category.
