Stanbic Mwamba thrashed Menengai Oilers 27-7 to lift the Kabeberi Sevens title, the second leg of the 2019 National Sevens Circuit, in a tense tight final yesterday at the Kinoru Stadium, in Meru.

Stephen Sikuta, Tony Omondi and Kenya Sevens international Billy Odhiambo gave the hosts a comfortable 15-0 halftime lead before superstar Collins Injera and Odhiambo killed the match after the break.

Speaking after the win, Kevin Wambua congratulated his charges for stepping up after Kakamega Sevens disappointment, saying their eyes are now focused on defending the Dala Sevens title they won last year.

“Big up to the lads for improving from our last week's performance in Kakamega. We played well since day one and I believe we can only get stronger as the circuit continues,” he said.

“Our focus now shifts to Kisumu and this victory will be a booster to the lads as we prepare for to defend our Dala Sevens crown.”

Sikuta, brother of Kenya Sevens and Kabras Sugar forward Dan, opened the scorings with a clean touch down for Kulabu but Omondi missed the conversion.

Omondi later amended his miss by landing Mwamba’s second try but the conversion still went wide.

Odhiambo then ensured Wambua went for the break a happy man with a third try for a 15-0 score.
