Polo: Amistra Xtra off to a fine start in Gilgil

Amistra Xtra were off to a fine start as they defeated Touchdown 6-1 at the Fawcus Cup and Connaught Polo Championships at Manyatta Polo Club in Gilgil yesterday.

As the teams started at handicap 9, it was the Amistra Xtra’s team of Casimir Gross  (4.5), Izzy Parsons (2.5), Omwakwe Arunga (1) and Harry Stichburry (1) that produced a good show, scoring six quick goals spread in four chukkas.

Gross and Parsons each netted a double while Arunga and Stichbury managed one each.

Touch down replied with one goal from a backhand shot by Tony Sugden in the fourth chukka in the 15-team tournament that will be used to pick under 18 national team for the Zambian International Championships in Lusaka next month.

Axial team of Gideon Moi, Jules Camm, Geoff Morley and Jammie Murray battled Actara team of Archie Voorspuy, Richard Stonewigg, Harry Griffiths and Ben Stonewigg last evening. Axial were leading 8-6 with Gideon Moi scoring the last goal.

In Division B Championships, handicap (0) Barclays team of Megan Griffiths, Louis Roumeguere, Izzy Stichbury and Jadini Nzomo beat Mambo Wholesalers 7-4.

Mambo Wholesalers team comprised Tom Stonewigg, Phyllipa Golden, Georgina Millar and James Grammaticas.

Handicap (0) Jadini netted a double in the first and fourth chukkas while Roumeguere scored goals in the first (two), second (one) and third (three) chukkas.
