'Glory Glory Man United…'

It's a theme song that once had an impact at Old Trafford whenever Manchester United stars graced the football field – inspiring them to lift every single piece of silverware they competed for.

But the departure of Sir Alex Ferguson in 2013 more or less manifested into a nightmare as it left the club in the dark, struggling to even secure European positions.

United have struggled to regain their lost glory, firing and hiring in attempts to bring back the good vibes at Old Trafford.

The Red Devils had poor spells under David Moyes, Louis van Gaal and Jose Mourinho who took over the reins of power at the 'Theatre of Dreams' respectively.

Despite the unveiling of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as manager in the middle of the season, United produced sloppy displays, consequently finishing sixth in the Premier League.

With the club's huge transfer budget each summer, Solskjaer should now brace himself for a busy summer, one that could potentially see the Red Devils make a comeback.

Game Yetu looks at four possible signings that could restore United's former glory:

Kalidou Koulibaly – Centre back
Manchester United have had a weak defence, conceding more than 50 goals in the Premier League last season.

Perhaps, the highly-rated Napoli centre back could be the remedy for United's defence. Paired with Victor Lindelof, who has had a good season, United's central defence would be unwavering.

Koulibaly has been in magnificent form at Napoli this season - key to the Italian club's campaign in the Serie A finishing second, 11 points behind Juventus.

The 27-year-old Senegal international was outstanding in the Serie A helping Napoli keep 14 clean sheets out the 35 matches he featured.

Solskjaer should make this master class defender a top priority before the Premier League summer transfer window closes on August 8.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka – Full-back
With Antonio Valencia out of contract after a decade at Old Trafford, the club should have his replacement in full-backs Diogo Dalot and Matteo Darmian.

Skipper Ashley Young was often shifted to the position but now being 33, a long-term succession plan is needed.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka would be the perfect choice for United as the Crystal Palace defender has been outstanding this season in the Premier League.

The 21-year-old had a tremendous debut season playing 35 out 38 matches for Palace and earning a promotion to the England under-21 squad.

The youngster made 129 tackles, 129 clearances and 206 recoveries in the just-concluded Premier League season.

Being in his early twenties, the player has a huge potential to become a world class player under good coaching.

As Solskjaer prepares for a major overhaul at Old Trafford this summer, the English full-back should be among those in his wish list.

Abdoulaye Doucoure – Midfielder

With his aggressive nature of play, the Frenchman would form an impeccable partnership with Nemanja Matic and Paul Pogba in midfield.

The French midfielder made 257 recoveries, 54 clearances and 34 interceptions in the Premier League last season. He had a 54 per cent tackle success and 1942 passes.

Doucoure scored five goals and assisted six times for Watford in 35 Premier League appearances last season.

Through his experience in the Premier League, Doucoure's services would be of worth.

Gareth Bale - Winger
Gareth Bale has had a season to forget at the Santiago Bernabeu.

The 29-year-old winger could be on his way out this summer. This is the opportune moment for United to seek for his signature.

The Welsh hitman has been struggling with injuries at the Bernabeu which made Zidane seek for alternatives.

But being one of the world's top class wingers, Bale unleashed impeccable display the 2017-18 Champions League final as his heroics against Liverpool in Kiev secured Madrid's 13th UCL title.

Netting eight goals in 29 LaLiga matches last season with 35 shots on goal, certainly a player of his calibre would be a perfect signing for United.

Paulo Dybala – Forward
Manchester United's attack was undoubtedly the poorest among the big six.

Paulo Dybala could be a great addition to the team's attacking force as Solskjaer seeks to reinforce his flops.

The Juventus star has been linked with a move away from the Serie A champions and this should be a plus for United.

The 25-year-old Argentinian scored five goals and provided four assists in 29 appearances for Juventus last season.

He relished a sumptuous form in the 2017-18 campaign scoring 22 goals and assisting five in 33 matches in the Serie A.

With Dybala, Bale, Martial and Rashford, United could probably have one of the most formidable attacks in Europe.

A huge summer spending spree by United could land the players at Old Trafford, thereby reviving Manchester United's former glory and bring more silverware into the trophies cabinet.
