Kenya’s International Defence Pistol shooting team ended the Southern Nationals tournament in Cape Town South Africa on a high winning several gold medals
Master shooter Robert Nyamongo broke the South-African steel plate record by shooting 4 steel plates 15 meters from draw in a time of 2.1 seconds with four rounds only. It was a double win for Master shooter Nyamongo, who bagged gold in International category and silver in ESP category losing by 1 second to the eventual winner.
Expert shooter Sammy Onyango also won gold at the Southern Nationals Shooting competition.
Other winners, who bagged medals were Peter Njoroge (silver) CCP division (Sharpshooter) and Mwangi Gikonyo who scooped bronze in CCP division (Marksman)
Gold winner Onyango said the competition was not easy, heaping praise on the Kenyan team.
“We did exceptionally well given the top notch training back home in Kenya,” Onyango said.
Master shooter Eng. Nyamongo said:
“By managing to get 3 Kenyans among the 10 winners is no mean achievement.”
This he said, “goes to show the growth of shooting sports in Kenya.”
“We encourage other Kenyans to join us once they have been vetted. The National Gun Owners Association (NGAO-KENYA ) welcomes everyone on board where they can benefit by training with us,” he said.
First time competitor Capt. Jeff Pesa said it has been a good experience and is happy to represent team Kenya.
Expert shooter Tony Wahome shot an excellent shot on COF One, which elicited cheers from the squad members and fans. The safety officer described his score of 11.8 as one of the best in that particular Course of Fire.
Tony Wahome, Robert Nyamongo and Sammy Onyango all made it in the top 10.
Top South African shooters Ian Van der Bank and Flip Du Plessis were called upon to visit Kenya to re-challenge the the country’s new record.
